Hawzah News Agency- Shaykh al‑Saduq narrated that his father (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated from Sa’d ibn Abd Allah, from Ahmad ibn Abi Abd Allah, from his father, from Wahb ibn Wahb, from Imam Sadiq (pbuh) that his father (pbuh) said:
الْقَتْلُ قَتْلَانِ قَتْلُ كَفَّارَةٍ وَ قَتْلُ دَرَجَةٍ وَ الْقِتَالُ قِتَالانِ قِتَالُ الْفِئَةِ الْكَافِرَةِ حَتَّى يُسْلِمُوا وَ قِتَالُ الْفِئَةِ الْبَاغِيَةِ حَتَّى يَفِيئُوا.
Killing is of two kinds:
1. A killing that entails expiation, and
2. A killing that entails [spiritual] rank.
And fighting is of two kinds:
1. Fighting the disbelieving group until they submit to Islam, and
2. Fighting the transgressing group until they return.
